Dispars arose from the desire to see past the façade presented to (and sought out by) outsiders to a culture, and to peel back the layers of my own expectations while living in South Korea and traveling to Southeast Asia and South Africa. The term dispars comes from philosophers Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, who point out the value in the nomadic way of thinking and being, as it relates to the individual, science and communities. From this perspective, the nomad is a person who continually responds and adapts to shifting inner and outer territories, and is essentially a state of mind.
